Malbec
Grape variety
Blue grape. Malbec is the Argentinian name for the grape. Very dark color that touches black. Intense taste of ripe fruit, plum and spice. Thrives best on highlands, and is therefore also best known as Argentina's national grape. Is one of the six varieties allowed to be used in Bordeaux blends. Primarily used for mixing with, and makes the wine dry and full-bodied. Also very widespread in Cahors, in France, where the AOC controlled must contain at least 70% Malbec. The Argentine variety is characterized by less tannin than the equivalent French.
