Indicazione Geografica Tipica
Classification
Italian classification. Wine that is typical of its area. The requirements for IGT are less strict than for DOC and DOCG, and give farmers the opportunity to experiment with grapes that cannot be used within DOC(G) production. IGT does not say anything about the quality of the wine, only that it comes from a certain area and is typical of the region, which is why the quality and price can fluctuate a lot. IGT roughly corresponds to the French vin de pays, or the German Landwein.
